Valley Hospital faced a monumental challenge when it became apparent that their facility required expansion, but it was not possible in their current Ridgewood location. The solution? The hospital looked two miles away in Paramus and proposed a state-of-the-art healthcare facility built from the ground up.
As they planned and designed this 900,000 sq ft campus, Valley Hospital turned to BFI, with whom they have a long-standing and well-established working relationship, to work with their architectural design team and hospital staff to create innovative and efficient spaces.
As an overall goal, the new hospital intended to continue the compassionate care they have provided the community for the past 50 years. Maintaining the high standards their patients have come to expect was paramount, and the collaborative nature of their design approach ensures those standards will be met.
The architectural firm HDR was tasked with creating the new hospital campus, and BFI became a team member early in the process. After an educational trip to Herman Miller headquarters in Michigan with HDR’s design team and Valley’s Facility team, BFI got to work tapping into its expansive healthcare design and product knowledge.
BFI and MillerKnoll’s healthcare teams were committed to working with HDR and Valley on the 40-acre health and wellness campus. Our collaboration resulted in laboratory spaces, nurse stations, patient treatment rooms, and lounge areas that stand out in this state-of-the-art healthcare facility.
MillerKnoll’s Co/Struc system has been used in the original hospital for many years, and the hospital laboratory staff, which was integral to designing the new laboratories, wanted the flexibility the modular system offers in the new location. The durability, flexibility, and efficiency found in Co/Struc are critical in a laboratory space. Working in conjunction with MillerKnoll Mora modular millwork, the furniture solution provided in the lab areas will meet the demands of this highly specialized area now and in the future.
The New Valley Hospital in Paramus is incredibly proud of its new facility and looks forward to opening its doors this spring. Patients will transition from the Ridgewood location to the Paramus location in one day with the help of 65 ambulances and a dedicated staff. The newly designed space is both beautiful and functional for staff and patients alike.
